Grambling dominates Southern to clinch West

  NEW ORLEANS — The Southern Jaguars entered the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in hopes of winning its first Bayou Classic since 2007. They left in disbelief. After upsetting Alabama State Nov. 12, the Jaguars lone task was to cap off the season with back-to-back wins for the first time since the hiring of second-year head coach Stump Mitchell. Full story

SU Late Night leaves some wanting more

Good times were being had at the Annual SU Late Night hosted by the Student Union Activities Board Friday in the Smith-Brown Memorial Union with a variety of games and other activities to help students relax with finals just around the corner. Full story

Empowerment Exchange provides opportunities

  Volunteer opportunities, careers, and information for Southern University and Grambling State University students were abundant at the "My Bayou Classic: Empowerment Exchange." Companies and Organizations including; Fresh campus, SAIC, Virtuous Communications, United Healthcare, CLECO Corporation, Entergy, Cox Communications, Hancock and Whitney Banks, CenturyLink, and Jacobs.

Kappa kare donates to charity

  The Kappa Kare initiative donated 35 bags and over 300 canned goods to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Bags included shoes, shirts, pants, jackets, baby clothes, toys, and baby accessories and canned goods ranged from beans to corn. The Alpha Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi organized the Kappa Kare initiative.

Speaker discusses finding success

  More than 30 companies and 80 colleges and universities nationwide were present for the Southern University Business and Industry Cluster annual Freshman Convocation Thursday in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union. Initiated by the National Alliance of Business, the Cluster program is meant to enhance the capabilities of historically minority colleges and universities in preparing graduates who are ready to take that step into the professional world in both public and private industries.

SU aids joint effort

  After the efforts of 500 students and sorting, checking, grouping and boxing up over 1,500 non-perishable food items, The Southern University Center for Service Learning donated essentials for a traditional thanksgiving meal to elderly and disabled adults.

Southeastern holds off Southern for 65-61 win

The Southeastern Louisiana Lions have lots of experience. They also have experienced guards in seniors Brandon Fortenberry and Deshawn Patterson. On Monday, Patterson was the one who took over the game while Fortenberry was sidelined with a foot injury. Full story

Southern gears up for Classic, G-Men

It's a college rivalry almost as old as the sport itself. The State Farm Bayou Classic features two Historically Black Institutions in the Southern University Jaguars and the Grambling State Tigers. Both teams have been battling each other for bragging rights since their first meeting in 1936. Full story

Southern rallies to knock off Hornets

  The second half has been heartbreaking, an indicator of improvement in all phases of the game. The Jaguars started off Saturday's game against Alabama State a little slow on offense, but managed a game-winning scoring drive to escape the Cramton Bowl 26-23.

  The Southern University Athletics Director Search Committee Wednesday identified three candidates qualified for the vacant athletics director position. The athletics director position opened following the April arrest and firing of former athletics director Greg LaFleur, a position he served for six years.

Tigers 2-step past Jaguars in Texas

HOUSTON — Texas Southern and Southern faced off in a slugfest Saturday, but the Tigers prevailed with a stout defense in the fourth quarter 29-15. Last Saturday's home finale win over Alcorn State was humbling for the Jaguars, who lost their its previous two games by four points.

Where were you when the board declared financial exigency on Southern University Baton Rouge? Were you tailgating, in class, at home, with a friend? I was in the meeting where more students should have been. It was not just about a deficit over 10 million dollars it was about a reputation, programs, faculty, and students who may leave and never come back.

Counseling Center encourages Alcohol Awareness

The Southern University Counseling Center looks to prevent alcohol related deaths among the collegiate population by implementing its annual Alcohol Awareness Week activities on October 19th- October 20th. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), alcohol-impaired drivers are involved in about 1 in 3 automobile crash deaths. Full story

From its world-famous Mardi Gras celebrations to its signature style of creating unique dishes to it being the home of jazz music, it comes as no surprise that New Orleans is one of the most creative and influential cities in the world.
